How to Ace your Job Interview?

Uncover 3 areas to outshine other candidates

If you are looking to establish yourself as THE BEST than other candidates in an interview, I have one thing to say “Relax”.

Being in Corporate MNC for more than a decade, let me share you the perspective of an Interviewer and how you can give your best shot to get the job.

In this blog, I am not going to talk about Grooming or firm handshake. There are many articles out there to guide you on grooming.

I want to cover the un-touched topics in other articles which can elevate your presence.

Mindset: You attend a job interview to start your career in new company. At the same, most people forget that Employer conducts an interview for their own requirement as well. They need an Employee who can bring value to their company with their knowledge and expertise.

When you are selected in an interview, it is a win-win for both the parties. But, just because you are looking for a job, do not self-trap yourself by taking a lower status in the interview.

Majority of the people fail in interview for one reason – They cannot exhibit their confidence during their conversation.

All you need, is a mindset shift that “You are attending the interview, because you have the right skill-set and employer don’t.

With help of your skillset, employers are going to earn additional revenue and improve their productivity. Approach your Interviewer with this kind of thinking, you elevate your status and gain super-confidence to begin your conversation.

Focus on your Resume: How many times have you edited your resume before attending an interview?

When an Interviewer sees your resume, they can easily identify if you copy the template of someone’s resume or you just brag about yourself without actual content.

Your resume should convey the message that you have put additional effort to prepare the content.

Let me share you the secret on how you can make your resume stand out from other candidates.

Focus on the Company and JD – You have to prepare and make changes in your resume (according to job description) every time you take up an interview.

No one is going to attend job interview without knowing the role and responsibilities.

Spend good amount of time in understanding the job description and mention your work experiences related to the Job role.

For example, let’s say, you are applying for the role Customer Service representative and if you mention irrelevant highlights like “Received Award for conducting Employee engagement activities, it might not grab their attention.

Rather, highlight more about your role related to JD like your competency level in customer relationship.

Focus on Value Proposition – What would you do to make your Interviewer’s time counted? How are you going to make your profile attractive to your Interviewer. I am not talking about your Resume font style or fancy words.

Interviewers open their conversation with “Tell me about yourself”statement. Your self-introduction plays a key role in grabbing HR’s attention. Do not bore them by talking about your hometown, hobbies etc. They will forget your personal story in a minute unless you and Interviewer have similarity in any aspects like same hometown, graduated in same college etc.

When they ask you to talk about yourself, use the scene to develop your Personal Brand by highlighting the core skills and explain how it can add value to his company.

Make your presence impactful by focusing on these 3 areas.
